The "Illuminati," an alleged secret society of illumined ones, has been a primary focus of conspiracy theorists. The Illuminati conspiracy essentially believes that in the world there are one or more major groups conspiring to take over the world. Jesus tells us in Matthew 15:14, "If the blind lead the blind they shall both fall into the pit" (see also John 9:41)! Most have been thoroughly convinced that all such conspiracy theories are preposterous imaginings, warped fables, urban legends, or are a response to unfounded fears. It has been said that the devil's best deception is to make people believe that he does not exist - the ultimate conspiracy! According to the "conspiracy theory," the Illuminati began as a secret society under the direction of a Jesuit-trained university professor. On May 1, 1776, a council of five men, one for each of the points on the pentagram, formed what was called "The Ancient and Illuminated Seers of Bavaria." They were high order Freemasons (Luciferian), thoroughly immersed in mysticism and eastern mental disciplines like the Siddhi's of Pantanjali. They deal with developing the super-powers of the mind. But, beware, the conclusion if you practice diligently, is that you are a god (Genesis 3). Their alleged plan and purpose is world domination for their lord. They are alleged to be behind the primary motivational forces encouraging Global Governance, a one-world religious ethic, and centralized control of the world's economic systems (the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank). It was their plan that, in order to enforce their encroaching "governance" plan, they would require a Global Military force (U.N. Peacekeepers) and a World Court to prosecute all who oppose them (The International Criminal Court). This would all be accomplished by brainwashing the gullible masses through control and manipulation of beliefs, the means of production, the press, educational curriculum, and political leadership of the nations. The Illuminati supposedly have various sub-groups with different talents and areas of expertise. It is believed by some that the most powerfully effective force is a private board of elite, inter-locking delegates who control the world's major banks. They create inflations, recessions, depressions, and manipulate the world markets, supporting certain leaders and coups and undermining others to achieve their overall goals. Time is not a factor, Whether it takes 300 or 3000 years, they will make their goal a reality. Some see the Illuminati's goals being finally realized in fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy of the reborn Roman Empire (Daniel 7). The supposed goal of the Illuminati is to create and then manage crisis that will eventually convince the masses that Globalism, with its centralized economic control and one-world religious ethic, are the necessary solution to the world's woes. This structure, known as "The New World Order," will of course be ruled by the Illuminati, who will control all important decisions. Christians have good reason to suspect something like this. The Bible says that just before the return of the Lord there will be intense persecution. The world will be governed by one man, the Anti-Christ, who will arise out of the confederation of nations (Global Governance), he will control the ability to buy and sell (centralized economic control through the mark), he will work a temporary false peace and persuade the people by false signs and wonders empowered by the beast that he is God, and he will require worship (a one-world false religion), enforcing compliance if and when necessary. Christians will be deemed enemies, and will be forced to recant their faith in Christ or die. He will sit in the Temple, being the ultimate abomination of desolation, and eventually cause the armies of many nations to gather against the people of God and the Holy City in the valley of Har-Meggido. This will mark the imminent return of our Lord (see Revelation 11-20). Many believe this is on the horizon.
